Dell Vostro laptop keyboards can wear out over time, causing the keys to stick or break. Cleaning is necessary to prevent debris from building up inside the keyboard, but sometimes it isn't enough to restore the keyboard's normal function. Dell Vostro 1710 Keyboard require little effort to replace. Replacing one yourself can also save you time and money over hiring a technician. Open the Vostro 1710 laptop until it lays flat on your work surface. Insert a flat screwdriver into the slot near the hinge on the right side of the laptop Carefully pry the hinge cover off the laptop. Remove the screws holding the Dell Vostro 1710 Keyboard in place and set them aside. Lift the Dell Vostro 1710 Keyboard to access the connector cable. Grasp the plastic connector and pull it out of its housing. Plug the new keyboard into the system board and replace the screws. Set the hinge cover back on the laptop; gently press down until it locks into place.
